The verdict

Pakistan's plug-in pickup segment filled up fast, and the Cannon Alpha arrives with the one card nobody else holds: local assembly. Sazgar's CKD line is ready while every rival ships in as an import, and the company is openly waiting for the new auto policy before naming a price. The hardware is the Tank 500 PHEV's Hi4-T system in work clothes, 402 hp, 750 Nm, a 37.11 kWh battery that covers the daily run on electricity, plus the things the soft-road rivals skip: a proper low-range transfer case, locking differentials and a 3,500 kg braked tow rating. The trade-off is payload, around 685 kg on the export sheet, because the battery eats into the vehicle's weight budget. If Sazgar lands it under the BYD Shark 6's 199.5 Lakh, the segment has a new reference point. Price to be announced; this page will carry it the day it drops.

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of the GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV in Pakistan?

The GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV is priced at Coming Soon in Pakistan (2026 — indicative, confirm with the dealer as prices move with taxes and exchange rates).

What is the electric range of the GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV?

The GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV drives up to 90 km on electric alone, then runs on petrol for longer journeys.

Where can I charge the GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV in Pakistan?

The GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV uses CCS2, Type 2 connectors. Charge it at public stations across Pakistan — see the live ChargePK map for chargers near you.

Who will build the GWM Cannon Alpha in Pakistan?

Sazgar Engineering Works, the same Lahore operation that assembles the Haval H6, Jolion and the rest of GWM's local lineup. At its September 2026 corporate briefing Sazgar said CKD preparations are already complete and the launch is expected within months, with the final price held back until the government's new auto policy is issued. PakWheels projects an October 2026 arrival.

How does the Cannon Alpha PHEV compare with the BYD Shark 6?

The Shark 6 is on sale today at PKR 199.5 Lakh; the Cannon Alpha is still pre-launch. On paper the GWM carries the bigger battery (37.11 kWh against 29.58), a mechanical low-range transfer case with locking differentials where the Shark uses a road-biased AWD setup, and a 3,500 kg braked tow rating against the BYD's 2,500 kg. The Shark answers with more combined power and the fact that it exists at a price. Local assembly is the Cannon Alpha's lever: if that translates into a lower sticker, the comparison flips.

Is this the same hybrid system as the Tank 500 PHEV?

Mechanically, yes. Both run GWM's Hi4-T: the same 37.11 kWh battery, the same 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine paired with a 120 kW motor for a combined 402 hp and 750 Nm, through the same 9-speed hybrid automatic. The difference is the body on top and what it is asked to do; the pickup adds the tow rating and the tray, and gives up some refinement and payload for them.

Can the Cannon Alpha PHEV work as an actual truck?

The export numbers say a qualified yes. Towing is the headline: 3,500 kg braked, the ceiling for the class. Payload is the compromise at roughly 685 kg, modest for a double cab because the battery consumes part of the weight budget. The vehicle-to-load socket supplies up to 6 kW from the traction battery, enough to run site tools or a campsite without a generator, and 800 mm of wading depth covers monsoon season. Pakistani ratings may differ once Sazgar publishes the local sheet.
