CCS2 vs CHAdeMO vs Type 2: Which EV Connector Does Your Car Use?
Turn up at a charger with the wrong connector and you're stuck. Pakistan uses a handful of plug standards, and knowing which one your car needs saves a wasted trip. Here's the plain-English guide.
Quick answer
| Connector | Current | Used for | Common cars |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type 2 | AC | Home & destination charging | Almost every EV's AC port |
| CCS2 | DC | Fast charging | BYD, MG, Haval, Deepal, Audi, most new EVs |
| CHAdeMO | DC | Fast charging | Older Nissan Leaf, some imports |
| GB/T | AC/DC | Both | Some Chinese-market imports |
Type 2 (AC charging)
Type 2 is the standard AC connector — the one you'll use at home and at slower public chargers in malls and hotels. Almost every EV sold in Pakistan has a Type 2 AC port. It's reliable and universal, just not fast.
CCS2 (DC fast charging)
CCS2 (Combined Charging System) is the dominant DC fast-charging standard in Pakistan and Europe. Cleverly, it's the Type 2 plug with two extra high-power pins beneath it, so a single port handles both AC and DC. If you've bought a new EV recently — BYD, MG, Haval, Deepal, Audi and most others — this is almost certainly your fast-charging connector.
CHAdeMO
CHAdeMO is an older Japanese DC standard, most commonly found on the older Nissan Leaf and some used imports. It still works at stations that offer it, but it's gradually being phased out in favour of CCS2, so newer cars rarely use it.
GB/T
GB/T is the Chinese national standard and turns up on some imported Chinese-market vehicles. Fewer public stations in Pakistan offer it, so if your car uses GB/T it's especially worth checking connector availability before you travel.
Which connector does your car use?
- BYD (Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal) — Type 2 for AC, CCS2 for DC fast charging.
- MG (ZS EV, MG4) — Type 2 + CCS2.
- Haval & Deepal — Type 2 + CCS2.
- Audi e-tron and most European EVs — Type 2 + CCS2.
- Older Nissan Leaf — Type 2 (or Type 1) for AC, CHAdeMO for DC.
When in doubt, check your car's manual or simply look at the charge port — CCS2 has the two large pins beneath the main plug.
A note on adapters
Adapters between DC standards (say CHAdeMO to CCS2) are rare, expensive and not always safe — it's far better to use a station that natively supports your connector than to rely on one.
How ChargePK helps
Every station in ChargePK lists its exact connector types, so you can confirm your car is compatible before you drive there — and filter the map to show only the chargers that fit your EV.

What connector do most EVs in Pakistan use?
Most new EVs use Type 2 for AC charging and CCS2 for DC fast charging — including BYD, MG, Haval, Deepal and Audi. Older Nissan Leafs use CHAdeMO for DC.
Is CCS2 the same as Type 2?
CCS2 builds on Type 2 — it's the Type 2 plug with two extra DC pins added beneath it, so one port on your car handles both AC (Type 2) and DC fast (CCS2) charging.
How do I know which connector my car needs?
Check your owner's manual or look at the charge port, and confirm each station's connectors in ChargePK before you travel.
