First CKD Jaecoo J5 BEV: Pakistan’s First Locally Assembled EV

The first CKD Jaecoo J5 BEV has rolled off NexGen Auto's Faisalabad line, as reported by PakWheels, whose footage showed the first locally assembled unit this week: the Jaecoo J5 BEV Premium Plus. According to Nishat Group, whose NexGen Auto builds the car, it is the first ever BEV assembled in Pakistan. The only thing missing is the number everyone is waiting for: the price. Here is what the J5 BEV is, the bracket it walks into, and why assembly here changes the maths.

The price is not announced yet. NexGen has not published pricing, variants or booking details for the J5 BEV, and this page will carry the official price as soon as it is announced. Bookmark it, or get the app and follow the catalogue, which updates the same day.

The first CKD Jaecoo J5 BEV: what rolled off the line

The full name of the car is the Jaecoo J5 BEV Premium Plus, and the Pakistan sheet shows it carrying a 58.9 kWh battery with a claimed 461 km NEDC range, a 155 kW (207.8 hp) front motor with 288 Nm, and a 4.38 metre body on a 2620 mm wheelbase with 184 mm of ground clearance, wearing 18 inch wheels, a 13.2 inch screen and a 1.45 square metre panoramic roof. The car was unveiled at PAPS 2026; what is new this week, per PakWheels' reports from the rollout, is the build location. NexGen already assembles the J7 PHEV and the J5 hybrid in Faisalabad, and the battery electric J5 now joins them.

Jaecoo J5 BEV price in Pakistan: the bracket it has to hit

Nothing is official. An expected figure of around PKR 80 Lakh circulated after PAPS, and the surrounding prices frame what it needs to be. The locally built J5 hybrid now runs PKR 77.99 to 87.99 Lakh after September's tax driven increase, because hybrids pay 25 percent sales tax since July while battery EVs pay 1. A J5 BEV near 80 Lakh would land inside its own hybrid sibling's price range with the tax system pointing buyers at it. JAECOO's own imported J6 EV runs PKR 87.99 to 107.99 Lakh. The electric SUVs it would fight, the ORA 5 at 85.99 and the BYD Atto 3 at about 89.9, are both imports, and the Geely EX5 arrives soon as one more. Land in the low 80s and the J5 BEV undercuts every proper electric SUV on sale; land near the hybrid's ceiling and it rewrites the segment. Local assembly is what makes either plausible.

Why CKD is the real story

Every electric SUV in Pakistan today is an import carrying import duty. CKD assembly sheds much of that load, and the tax code does the rest: hybrids now pay 25 percent sales tax while battery EVs keep 1 percent under the draft Auto Policy 2026-31, and answers the NEV Policy's local manufacturing push directly. NexGen has run this play twice: the J7 PHEV and J5 hybrid both launched under comparable imports. It is also the second plank of the infrastructure week: the government just told the National Assembly it plans 3,000 charging stations by 2030, and locally built EVs are the demand side of that bet.

Range, honestly

The 461 km claim is NEDC, the most flattering cycle after CLTC. Converted with the same ratios our range converter uses, that is roughly 390 km WLTP and about 345 km in mixed real driving, which covers Lahore to Islamabad on a single charge with margin. Expect CCS2 fast charging like its JAECOO siblings, pending the Pakistani sheet, and the live charger map already shows every public stop it would use, with the journey planner handling intercity routes.

What happens next

Price, variants and booking details. NexGen moved from first units to market launch within weeks for the J5 hybrid, so this should not be a long wait. The J5 BEV is already on its catalogue page with full specs and live charging compatibility, and the price lands there the day it is official, next to every electric SUV it competes with, all comparable in the compare tool.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Jaecoo J5 BEV's price in Pakistan?

Not announced. A figure of around PKR 80 Lakh circulated as an expected price after the PAPS 2026 unveiling, but it is an estimate, not NexGen's number. The bracket is clear: the locally built J5 hybrid now runs PKR 77.99 to 87.99 Lakh after the hybrid sales tax rose to 25 percent, JAECOO's own imported J6 EV runs 87.99 to 107.99 Lakh, and the ORA 5 and BYD Atto 3 hold 85.99 and about 89.9. Land under them and the J5 BEV becomes the cheapest proper electric SUV in Pakistan. This page will carry the official price the day it drops.

What are the Jaecoo J5 BEV's specifications?

Per the Premium Plus shown for Pakistan: a 58.9 kWh battery, 461 km NEDC claimed range, a 155 kW (207.8 hp) front motor with 288 Nm, 4380 mm long on a 2620 mm wheelbase with 184 mm of clearance, 18 inch wheels, a 13.2 inch screen and a panoramic roof. Final Pakistani specification and variant lineup are yet to be confirmed.

What is the J5 BEV's real-world range?

The 461 km claim is NEDC, the most flattering cycle after CLTC. As working numbers, that converts to roughly 390 km WLTP and about 345 km in mixed real driving, comfortably enough for Lahore to Islamabad on one charge. Our range converter translates any quoted figure into a realistic one.

Is the Jaecoo J5 BEV the first BEV assembled in Pakistan?

That is Nishat Group's claim: the first ever Pakistani assembled battery electric vehicle. Locally built hybrids and PHEVs exist, and low speed electric microcars have been assembled here, but every highway capable BEV on sale today, from the Atto 3 to the ORA 5 to JAECOO's own J6, arrives as an import. The J5 BEV rolling off NexGen's Faisalabad line is the first of its kind built in the country.

When is the Jaecoo J5 BEV launching?

No launch date is announced. The first CKD unit rolled off the line in late October 2026, which typically puts a market launch weeks rather than months away. NexGen launched the J5 hybrid within weeks of its first units in January 2026. Booking details and variant lineup should land with the price.

How does the J5 BEV compare with the Jaecoo J6?

The J6 is the bigger, boxier flagship EV, imported at PKR 87.99 to 107.99 Lakh. The J5 BEV is the volume play: a size down, locally assembled, and expected to undercut it meaningfully. If the reported estimate holds, the J5 BEV would deliver most of the J6's range for several lakh less, which is exactly the slot the market is missing.

Why does local assembly matter for the price?

CKD assembly avoids the duty load that imported EVs carry, and the New Energy Vehicle Policy pushes local manufacturing on top of the 1 percent sales tax battery EVs already enjoy. NexGen's own track record shows the effect: its locally built J7 PHEV and J5 hybrid undercut comparable imports at launch. The same lever applied to a full electric SUV is what makes this rollout matter.

Where will the Jaecoo J5 BEV charge?

Expect CCS2 fast charging and Type 2 AC like its JAECOO siblings, though the Pakistani sheet has not confirmed connectors yet. On CCS2 it would work at the large majority of the DC fast chargers ChargePK tracks, and the live map shows every public option, with the journey planner routing intercity trips around real stops.
