BYD Local Assembly in Pakistan Starts in December: Sealion 6 PHEV First

A silver BYD Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid SUV driving on a coastal road past green hills

BYD will start assembling cars in Pakistan in December 2026, and the first locally built model will be the Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid. Hub Power Company (Hubco), whose associate Mega Motor Company runs BYD in Pakistan, gave the date at an analyst briefing reported on 3 November 2026 by Arif Habib Limited and carried by Business Recorder. The plant near Karachi is built for 25,000 cars a year on two shifts, with room to reach 50,000, and the Denza B5 and Denza B8 are expected to follow around the end of the year.

Every BYD sold in Pakistan today is imported fully built. Local assembly is the step that could finally let BYD price against the Chinese plug-in hybrids already made or sold here, but it starts with imported kits, and the date has moved twice already.

Why the Sealion 6 goes first

The Sealion 6 is a mid size SUV and a plug-in hybrid, which suits a market where charging still thins out between cities. The version BYD brought into Pakistan as a demo unit has an 18.3 kWh Blade battery for a claimed 70 km of electric driving on the NEDC cycle, a 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine for everything beyond that, and 319 hp with 550 Nm from all wheel drive, enough for 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 5.9 seconds. It charges at up to 6.6 kW on AC and 18 kW on DC in export form, so most owners will charge it at home overnight.

It lands in the busiest part of the plug-in hybrid market. Three SUVs with the same size battery already sell here for PKR 99.99 Lakh to PKR 1.06 Crore, and the Haval H6 PHEV, the closest all wheel drive rival, costs PKR 1.29 Crore:

Claimed ranges come from different test cycles, so compare battery sizes first. Every car here is on the plug-in hybrid list, and you can line any of them up in the compare tool.

BYD Sealion 6 expected price in Pakistan

We expect the Sealion 6 to be priced between PKR 12 and 14 million (PKR 1.2 to 1.4 Crore). That is ChargePK’s estimate, not a BYD figure; BYD and Mega Motor Company have not announced a price. Here is how we get there:

  • The front wheel drive plug-in hybrid SUVs with the same size battery, the Tiggo 7 PHEV, J7 PHEV and Omoda 7, sell for PKR 99.99 Lakh to PKR 1.06 Crore. That is the floor.
  • The version reported for Pakistan is the all wheel drive Sealion 6 with 319 hp, and the closest all wheel drive rival, the Haval H6 PHEV, costs PKR 1.29 Crore.
  • BYD prices above most Chinese brands here: the Atto 3 costs PKR 89.9 Lakh and the Seal starts at PKR 1.48 Crore.
  • The first cars use fully imported kits, and plug-in hybrids would pay 9 percent sales tax under the draft policy, so a big launch discount is unlikely.

If BYD also offers a front wheel drive version, it could start below this range. The Sealion 6 page will carry the official price the day it is announced.

Will a locally assembled BYD be cheaper?

Nobody has said yet. BYD and Mega Motor Company have announced no prices for the Sealion 6, and the first cars will be built from fully imported kits, so the saving at the start comes from lower duties on kits rather than local parts. Hubco wants up to 80 percent local content in time, which is where the bigger cuts usually come from.

Tax pulls the other way. Under the draft Auto Policy 2026-31, plug-in hybrids would pay 9 percent sales tax against 1 percent for battery EVs, so a hybrid has to win on its build cost. For scale, here is what BYD’s imported range costs today:

BYD model (imported)TypePrice
BYD Atto 2ElectricPKR 72.9 Lakh
BYD Atto 3 AdvancedElectricPKR 89.9 Lakh
BYD SealElectricPKR 1.48 Crore to PKR 1.7 Crore
BYD Sealion 7 AdvancedElectricPKR 1.55 Crore
BYD Shark 6Plug-in hybrid pickupPKR 2 Crore

Pakistan already has two other local electrified builds to judge against: the Jaecoo J5 BEV from NexGen in Faisalabad and the NEVO Hunter range extender pickup from Master Changan in Karachi.

Denza B5 and B8: the next two

Denza is BYD’s premium brand, and both of its Pakistan bound models are big four wheel drive plug-in hybrids. BYD imported demo units of both in May 2026, as PakWheels reported, and Hubco now expects them around the end of 2026:

  • Denza B5: five seats, a 1.5 litre turbo with two motors for 536 hp and 760 Nm, a 31.8 kWh battery for a claimed 100 km NEDC on electricity, and 100 kW DC charging.
  • Denza B8: six or seven seats, 5.2 metres long, a 2.0 litre turbo with two motors for 569 hp and 760 Nm, a 36.8 kWh battery for a claimed 115 km NEDC, and 120 kW DC charging.

Neither has a price or a confirmed local build yet. The closest thing on sale is the GWM Tank 500 PHEV, and the full SUV list shows everything in between.

The Hubco link: BYD’s assembler also runs 20 fast chargers

The same group that is about to build BYDs owns one of the country’s larger charging networks. Hubco Green runs 20 chargers on the ChargePK map, most of them 60 kW DC units at PSO and Attock fuel stations, with 120 kW sites at Hakla on the M-1, Painsra on the M-4 and PGL Jasmine in Lahore. The rest cover the long Sindh and Punjab runs:

For Sealion 6 owners that matters less than it sounds: an 18.3 kWh battery at 18 kW gains little from a fast charger, so home charging does the work. Our home charging guide covers the setup, and the DC fast charger price list has every public rate, including Karachi where the plant is.

The date has moved before

Treat December as a target. The plant was first meant to start in the first half of 2026, then slipped to late 2026, as PakWheels reported, and a mid year start was talked about in between. The difference now is that Hubco has named the first model and a month in front of analysts, and the Denza demo cars are already here.

Frequently asked questions

When will BYD start local assembly in Pakistan?

In December 2026, as a target. Hubco told analysts the plant near Karachi starts CKD assembly that month, and Topline Securities put it at mid December. The date has slipped before, from the first half of 2026, so wait for BYD’s own launch announcement.

Which BYD car will be made in Pakistan first?

The BYD Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid SUV. It will be built from imported kits at first, with more locally made parts added over time.

Where is the BYD plant in Pakistan?

Near Karachi. It is being built by BYD and Mega Motor Company, the Hubco associate that sells BYD cars in Pakistan.

How many cars can the BYD Pakistan plant make?

25,000 cars a year on two shifts, expandable to 50,000. Hubco expects to sell 1,000 to 1,500 cars a month at first.

Will locally assembled BYD cars be cheaper?

Prices are not announced; we expect the Sealion 6 at PKR 12 to 14 million. The first kits are fully imported, so early savings come mainly from lower duties on kits; bigger cuts depend on reaching Hubco’s target of up to 80 percent local content. Plug-in hybrids would also pay 9 percent sales tax under the draft Auto Policy 2026-31.

Is the BYD Sealion 6 a hybrid or an electric car?

A plug-in hybrid. Its 18.3 kWh battery gives a claimed 70 km of electric driving on the NEDC cycle in the top AWD version, and a 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine takes over after that.

What is the BYD Sealion 6 price in Pakistan?

We expect PKR 12 to 14 million (PKR 1.2 to 1.4 Crore). That is ChargePK’s estimate; BYD has not announced a price. Plug-in hybrid SUVs with the same size battery sell for PKR 99.99 Lakh to PKR 1.06 Crore, and the all wheel drive Haval H6 PHEV costs PKR 1.29 Crore. The Sealion 6 page will carry the official price the day it is announced.

Are the Denza B5 and B8 coming to Pakistan?

Yes, expected around the end of 2026. BYD imported demo units of both in May 2026; prices and launch dates are not announced. See the Denza B5 and Denza B8 pages for specifications.

Who sells BYD cars in Pakistan?

Mega Motor Company, an associate of Hub Power Company (Hubco). BYD has sold more than 10,000 cars in Pakistan since it arrived in 2024, all imported so far.

Where can I charge a BYD in Pakistan?

At any public charger with the right connector: BYD cars here use Type 2 for AC and CCS2 for DC. The ChargePK map shows every one live, including 20 Hubco Green sites with 120 kW chargers at Hakla, Painsra and Lahore.
